Like most trail runners I am not going to win the Hardrock 100, ever. Like most trail racers I end my day somewhere in the middle of the pack. Like most trail enthusiasts I do it for the love of the outdoors and the unknown nature of the trails. And, like almost anyone, I need goals to make me better at what I do. That is why I invite you to join me in my goal of running the Superior Hiking Trail in the 2012 running season.

Who Am I And What Am I Doing?

What Am I Doing?
During the 2012 trail running season (April-November) I intend to run the Superior Hiking Trail in 16-25 mile sections, and I want you to join me.  This will be a loose and varying group of people meeting at a trail head at a given time.  All of the people who are joining in in this journey will be at different levels of ability and desire.  As a group we will decide on a plan (either ahead of time via e-mail or when we get there).

Who is Running This Blog?

June 1rst, 2010 was the first day of the rest of my life.  That was the day I decided to change the way I lived.  I was 30 years old, doing a job I loved and a fairly active 293 lbs with good blood pressure and cholesterol.  My only problem was that I didn’t like the way I looked.  So I thought I would try to change that through diet and some sort of exercise.  My first 1.8 mile run on a gravel road told me that I 1.)was in worse shape than I thought and 2.) might actually like running.  Soon the luster of road-running wore off and I set to the trails.  It was like being let out on the last day of school and running free through the neighborhood.
Now it is winter 2012 and I’m down to 197 with a half-marathon, 25K and trail marathon under my belt.  My success has brought me so much pride and joy that I keep feeling the need to spread the message of healthy living and the joy of running as far and wide as I can.  I look forward to meeting all of you and sharing the beautiful Superior Hiking Trail for the day.
