Like most trail runners I am not going to win the Hardrock 100, ever. Like most trail racers I end my day somewhere in the middle of the pack. Like most trail enthusiasts I do it for the love of the outdoors and the unknown nature of the trails. And, like almost anyone, I need goals to make me better at what I do. That is why I invite you to join me in my goal of running the Superior Hiking Trail in the 2012 running season.

Your Responsibilities

-Know something about remote trail running.  If you are used to road running, or your trail running experience is on carriage roads or mown cross country ski trails you need to be aware that these trails are remote and rugged (in the best possible way).  If you are unable to physically prepare for the remoteness make sure to mentally prepare yourself.  Your split times and miles per hour mean very little here.  BE PREPARED TO ACCEPT AND ENJOY WALKING!

-Be physically prepared.  You can always do more than you think.  That being said it is your responsibility to your fellow runners in our group to be physically prepared for this day of running.  We will try to function as a community but there is no guarantee or expectation that people will wait for you.  Be prepared to run alone.

-Bring your own Food and Water.   I can’t say this enough… This is not an organized race.  There will be no aid stations or water jugs.  You must bring everything you need.

-Be prepared to help your fellow runner.  We will not run as a group.  There is no expectation for aid.  Food and water will be supplied by you.  However, we are all people and it will always be hoped that we will do the right thing.  I would rather cut a run short than leave someone bloodied or broken.  Please do the thing that needs doing.

-Be excited.  This should be really fun!  We are trying to promote a healthy lifestyle and that is the most successful when it is fun.  Get your friends and family excited.
